We left the UK on 30th August and returned on 29th September. An unexpected trip - not planned until very late on. Our grandson Daniel told us in June that on his visit to Thailand in August/September he would be getting married to his Thai fiancée Wandee (or Goy, as she is known to family and friends). Initially we weren't going to go, but decided later that we'd like to be there, as his mother couldn't fly following her recent hip replacement. We then thought that as we'd be two-thirds of the way to Australia we might as well go the whole way. We went straight to Canberra, as Barry & Nancy were going on a cruise. After that we stayed with Roybn & Len again in Tathra and then made our way along the coast to Melbourne, before flying home via a stopover in Singapore. Going out through Bangkok and back via Singapore meant that were limited for choice on airlines. We flew with Emirates, changing planes in Dubai both ways. They were really good, with very comfortable new A380s. The only bad bit was a Qantas codeshare leg from Dubai to Sydney. The usual Qantas rubbish service - no veggie main meal for Anne, and a veggie breakfast that consisted of three tiny pieces of fruit. They really are a disgrace. Thanks as ever to the friends who put us up and those who found time to meet up. As usual the descriptions on these pages are mostly taken straight from the diary that we type up as we go along. |
