Barrington Court

This National Trust property is just north of the A303 near Illminster in Somerset. It's a Tudor manor house, beautifully restored in the 1920s by the Lyle family (as in Tate & Lyle, hence the array of jars of syrup in one of the pictures). The house was empty when the Trust acquired it, so they rented it on a long lease to a furnishers, who used it for display.  When the tenants moved out a few years ago the Trust decided to leave the house unfurnished, so that visitors could concentrate on the building itself.

The gardens are inspired by Gertrude Jekyll
