Blenheim Palace

Blenheim Palace is in Woodstock, near Oxford. It was a gift from Queen Anne and a grateful nation to John Churchill, 1st Duke of Marlborough following his famous victory at the Battle of Blenheim in 1704. This was unlucky for Churchill, as otherwise he would have inherited the family estate at Minterne Magna in Dorset. The palace is also famous for being the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill in 1874.

It was built for show, and to us it seemed more like a series of grand rooms than a home, The 11th Duke still lives there some of the time, though the (presumed) 12th probably won't, as he's been by-passed in the inheritance stakes in favour of his son.
