Blue Ridge Parkway

Similar to, but subtly different from, the Skyline Drive, the BRP runs about 470 miles. In many places it is just the road, plus a strip about 600ft each side, whereas the Skyline is a complete park. The BRP has numerous junctions with local roads, and in some places has fronting properties. Its speed limit is 45mph against 35. As a consequence you get less of a feeling of driving through wilderness.

We spent three days driving south down 380 miles, starting at the northern end at Waynesboro, and stopping at Roanoke, Boone, and ending at Asheville (although the Parkway continues south beyond there to the Smokey Mountains).
