We spent all of Tuesday 8 July in Colonial Williamsburg. This is is a ‘living museum’ of colonial life. In practice, it’s a mixture of original buildings and re-creations intended to show what life was like in the late 1700s around the time of Independence. Very interesting as there are lots and lots of volunteers and staff dressed in costume and sometimes acting in character. There were various horse drawn carriage rides on the otherwise traffic-free streets, as well as modern buses that circulate round the outside. We skipped the Governor’s Palace as we can see lots of similar buildings in the UK, and concentrated on domestic buildings like houses, shops and workshops. In the evening we had a meal with Helen, Brian and their son Ian. We had met in the UK at the RNLI where Brian underwent the capsize training with Tracey. Click here to see him. |
