Murray River

After leaving Khancoban at foot of Snowies took road to Albury. Got stopped by police at roadblock outside Corryong and Les got breathalised. He'd only had a small low-alcohol beer. The Police Officer explained that it's routine to stop everyone (they don't need a reason) - they're really looking for the long-distance lorry-drivers who take drugs to stay awake.
Long journey to Albury as our map was misleading and we had to turn back when a road turned out to be unsurfaced (you can't take hire vehicles on dirt roads).
Eventually reached Albury after going through interesting bridge works over Lake Hume. This was the first place we hadn't booked ahead and the town turned out to be full because of a conference. We were sent to a motel overlooking the golf course on the edge of town. This turned out to be marvellous with lovely rooms in a delightful setting and the added bonus (to Les) of free broadband access in every room (and more importantly to Anne a swimming pool). Not only this but the golf course clubhouse is only 100yds away and we had the most wonderful meal sitting outside on the balcony. We stopped in the city centre on our way out the next morning, and once again we saw the Queen's Commonwealth Games Baton Relay.
Stopped at Rutherglen for lunch at Wine Centre. Overnight at Echuca - old port on Murray River - small town but stuffed full of motels and restaurants as it's a popular starting place for holidays on the Murray. Had dinner overlooking the river, and listening to the incredible noise of thousands of white Cockatoos, fighting for roosting perches in the trees on the riverbank.  Disaster - we lost last 2 days of Anne's photos again. Next morning took a quick trip on a paddle-steamer, before setting off for Mildura. Long day driving, stopping at various point on the Murray.

Even longer drive next day - about 430K to Adelaide. Roads and traffic good, but still didn't reach Adelaide until around 4pm.
