Singapore

Outward via Singapore

This part of the journey was really quite uneventful. In the end Linda had to run us to Heathrow after Tracey had crushed her foot the previous week. An easy journey up. We'd set off early so that Linda could return well before the afternoon rush hour. She dropped us off without parking and we went into the terminal where Joan turned up five minutes later, having come up on the underground to see us off. We were surprised to find a quiet cafe/bar where we sat for an hour over drinks and a sandwich.
We took off 30 minutes late at 7.15pm but otherwise a straightforward flight. Only one patch of turbulence, and that not very bad. It was 12.5 hours flying time to Singapore. Both of us slept a little but not as much as we would have liked. We both watched a little of the in-flight entertainment, but then Les listened to his new i-Pod Nano (Anne's Christmas present). He actually gave up trying to fill it before we left after he put sixteen hours of music and radio on it and still had space left.
We had 4 hours at Changi airport. For those who haven't been, it's one of the world's best (various travel industry surveys - not just our view). We'd hoped to upload some bits - but although internet access is free, you need a connecting cable, and we'd packed one in a suitcase, assuming the access would be wi-fi. Instead we had a light meal, a doze and a wander round the shops etc.
The onward flight to Perth was only 4.5 hours, but we took off 35 minutes late, so we arrived in Perth around 12.45am. After getting through all the controls a short taxi ride got us to our hotel at 2am. We were both relieved to lie down and sleep.
