The ruins of an old abbey on the banks of the River
Laïta. It’s set in about 120ha of woods etc.
There’s not much left in the way of buildings; only the
orangery, the Tithe Barn, the Chapter House and the Abbot’s house
remain, together with a ruined wall from the main abbey. The
Orangery and the Abbot's house have good exhibitions, and in the
latter we saw live CCTV of Greater Horseshoe Bats roosting in the
loft.
We had a really nice lunch in a
crêperie on the banks of the river while we waited for the abbey
grounds to open.
Afterwards we drove to a nearby bridge
over the Laïta, where
there’s a memorial to those who fell during the Libreration. |
