Sunday 5 June

Latish start this morning. Had usual fruit and coffee in room whilst Skyping Karen and Robert. Gutted that we’d missed Benjamin and family by a couple of minutes when we first Skyped, Karen & Robert were outside in the road saying goodbye to them.

Set off on the ‘usual route’ to Madison Junction, then turned south towards Old Faithful. The main problem was shortly after entering the park when we joined a very long, very slow moving queue. This turned out to be caused by buffalo strolling along the road. Once we got past this progress wasn’t too bad.

Before we reached Old Faithful we stopped for pics of a coyote at Fountain Flat Drive.

Went into the Old Faithful site and using the knowledge gained on our previous visit, we ignored the car parks and parked by the Visitor Centre and went straight into the restaurant for a coffee.

Carried on down to West Thumb where we started on new ground down towards the southern exit. If anything, the snow got even deeper as went south of West Thumb. Stopped for photos along Lewis Lake, which is even more frozen than Yellowstone Lake - no thermal activity keeping any part of it open. Below this we stopped at Lewis Falls which are fairly low but quite attractive.

After this it was a simple run down to the park ext, where we seemed to pass seamlessly into Grand Teton National Park. There's no need for an entrance station as you have to have had a pass to have come from Yellowstone NP.
