Once again woke very early and then went back to sleep until after 8am. Usual morning coffee and biscuits while we got ready, checked email etc. One from Graham and Jacqui who’d heard about the storms.

Got subway 1 to Christopher St/Sheridan Sq. Walked around Greenwich Village for a while. We tried unsuccessfully to get some cash from an HSBC ATM - it claimed we had insufficient funds which worried us a bit! We carried on and then stopped for coffee and fruit. Decided to walk down to the Hudson River frontage where we found a nice cycle path/walkway and a playground at Pier 51.

Decided to go to the High Line. This is a linear park opened in 2009 which is on the bed of an elevated freight line which served the Meatpacking District. Started by a man who wanted to preserve the railway structure and based on the similar park in Paris. It runs from W12th to 20th at the moment and works are well underway to extend it to 34th. Really interesting and a very pleasant walk.

Coming off the High Line we went east on W20th heading for the C line. Tried in a Capital One ATM and got the same message, but then managed to get some money by asking for a smaller amount. We asked in the bank but they couldn’t understand why it wouldn’t let us have a larger amount, given that the receipt slip showed that we had plenty of money available.

Walked a little way north on 9th through Chelsea where there were lots of nice shops and restaurants.

Got onto the C line at 23rd/8th and got off at Fulton St (Broadway-Nassau) and walked the short distance to South Street Seaport. What a difference to last time we were here, when it was covered in snow. Had a quick fish lunch in the Food Court, then a look round the shops. The pedestrian area of Fulton was incredibly busy compared to our last visit.
Had a quick ice-cream/sorbet and then walked back up Fulton and across to Ground Zero.Found our way to the World Financial Centre One and this time, after taking photos of the progress, we were able to go into WFC Two and all the public areas. They were closed last time as it was the weekend. Wandered all round and ended up coming out of the western side of the complex onto the Hudson River. There were loads of cars displayed both inside and outside the buildings - some sort of sales promotion.

We then discovered that it’s possible to walk all the way down the river frontage on a landscaped cycle/pedestrian path. We went all the way down to Battery Point, stopping several times to sit down and ease Les’s legs. A lovely walk with great views across to New Jersey and lots of tour boats/ferries going up, down and across at high speed. Finally got to South Ferry station around 5pm and caught the subway back to the hotel.

Checked in for our flight to Las Vegas and then Anne packed the cases for tomorrow’s early departure while Les changed labels on the cases, wrote some postcards and downloaded photos. We’ve actually managed to upload a first batch to Facebook.

Went down for a drink in the bar and then across to the diner. After we’d ordered our food the waiter asked what we’d like to drink and then he told us there was no alcohol available but couldn’t or wouldn’t explain why. We stuck to water which probably did us both good. Nice meal and then back to room for an early night. After writing up diary Les managed to upload another two batches of photos to Facebook.
