There’s a Starbucks at the bottom of the lift so Les went down and got the standard coffee, fruit and a pastry which we ate before showering. While Les was selecting a shirt from the wardrobe he had a closer look at the little black box with flashing lights which was screwed to the wall inside the top of the wardrobe. We’d thought this was part of the cable TV system but on closer inspection it turned out to be a cable modem. Couldn’t see where you would plug anything in and anyway we don’t have a cable. Les then realised that tucked down the side of the TV which is recessed into the wardrobe unit, there was a white ethernet cable which is long enough to reach to anywhere in the room. Plugged it in and we were away. This seems to be part of the ‘Resort Fee’. We just hope that we’ve already paid this as part of the booking. Spent an hour checking our emails and responding to comments about our pictures on Facebook. Set off and walked through Excalibur and across to MGM Grand. Worked our way slowly through the place. The ticket offices all seemed to be closed so we started heading for the Cirque de Soleil Ka Theatre and the monorail. The theatre itself was also closed (no show on Sundays) so we thought we’d have to come back tomorrow. The good news was that we spotted the Wolfgang Puck restaurant opposite which looked quite good. Carried on through a whole area of restaurants from the standard cheap food court to some extremely smart, very expensive ones. Leaving the restaurant area we were distracted by an invite to view 3D TV in the Sony demonstration shop. We did this by standing outside and looking through a pair of glasses being held up to the window by a member of staff. Very amusing and quite impressive. We then realised we’d lost the monorail signs but that we were standing next to an open ticket office and we were able to buy tickets for Tuesday night’s show. |

Made our way back to the monorail and went all the way down to the end of the line at Sahara. Walked through Sahara and a short way down the street to the Stratosphere. It was after 12 by now so we had a cheap quick lunch in McDonalds before buying our tickets. There was virtually no queue and we were straight through security and into the lift. The viewing deck (108 floors up) was not at all crowded and we had plenty of room to stroll slowly round the whole 360 degrees taking photographs. We watched a succession of people do the bungee jump. Watched is probably the wrong word as we could hardly bear to look at them go. |

Came out and found bus stop. Only way to buy tickets was with credit card in machine. Bought two $7 tickets to give unlimited rides for 24 hours. Caught the Deuce (double decker) all the way back up the Strip to Luxor. The bus stops at all the hotels and is quite slow because of people paying when they get on. Came back to room, downloaded photos, looked at email and typed up a bit of the diary. Interesting to see how many people are looking at our photos on Facebook. Had a rest for a while and then walked back to MGM and ate at Wolfgang Puck’s. Very nice - Anne had calamari. Les had spotted calves liver on the menu, so he had that. Quite surprised when they gave him a steak knife. When the calves liver arrived it was cut in the size and shape of a steak - about an inch thick - very unusual for us and not quite as tender as we’re used to, but very nice. The waiter came up and mentioned the apricot crème brulee desert and of course Les couldn’t resist. |

Walked back onto the strip just in time to get a bus so we went down to Paris. Restaurant was heaving as usual. Tried to go up the Eiffel Tower but there was a 45 minute wait so we didn’t bother. Took a good look round the hotel which is amazing. All painted ceilings and Versailles type decoration. We crossed the road to the Bellagio and just caught the end of a fountain show. It runs every 15 minutes so we waited for the next one and had a good spot at the front of the crowd. Anne was able to video the whole show. |

We managed to get on a bus straightaway and come back up to the Luxor. When we got to the lift lobby there were two young blonde American girls waiting. We pressed the call button and a lift door opened immediately. The girls got in with us and were complaining about the amount of time they’d had to wait. We patiently explained three times that you have press the button to get the lifts to open the doors. Not sure that they really understood. 10pm by the time we got in so straight to bed. |
