Usual reasonably early start and a
session looking at emails and photos before leaving around 10am.
Caught the bus to the Venetian and had
a coffee (chatted to English couple from Manchester) and spent the
rest of the morning wandering around this amazing place. Had lunch
in the Food Court, talking to two couples from North Carolina.
After lunch walked across to Mirage
and went into Siegfried and Roy’s Secret Garden and watched the
dolphins. The Secret Garden is where the lions, leopards and white
tigers are kept.
Came back to the Luxor on the bus
mid-afternoon, downloaded photos, uploaded a few more to Facebook
and had a rest.
Went back out about 6pm to go down to
Freemont St. Made a complete hash of getting the Gold Line (limited
stop) bus. We went out via the Mandalay Bay and ended up having to
walk down the car ramp and making an impromptu crossing of Las Vegas
Boulevard. We then found we were not at the Mandalay Bay stop but at
the Four Seasons stop which is only for the Deuce bus. We had to
watch a Gold Line go past. We got the Deuce bus one stop to what
they call Mandalay Bay but is in fact outside Luxor. Interesting
drive down to Freemont St passing some quite derelict areas.
Freemont St is mind boggling. Almost
every square inch of wall is illuminated. Live music at a couple of
points in the street. After we’d been there for about 10 minutes the
7pm light show started on the barrel-vault that covers the street.
It literally stopped everybody in their tracks. Virtually nobody
moved - everyone simply looked at the display on the ceiling. Anne
managed to take some video.
After it ended we walked down to the
end of the street and found a casino doing a buffet for $12.50. Very
good as this included apple and orange juice which costs $4 a time
in most places anyway. Anne had mahi-mahi and Les had chicken and
ribs. We came back out just in time for another light show which was
probably even better than the first one. The high point being a
shuttle taking off and running down the whole length of the street,
followed by clouds of flame. This brought spontaneous applause. When
this finished we walked back to the centre and caught the bus back
to Luxor. Got back about 9.15.
We wrote the above after we got
back in. What we didn't realise at the time was that Les had got
food poisoning from the buffet!
