Usual lazy start and visit to supermarket. Very hot day. Set off for Pontivy and stopped for coffee at Hennebont. After coffee parked by the river/canal. Pam and Anne sat on the wall while Les and Dick walked along the ramparts of the old castle. First time Dick had done this as the ramparts had been under restoration previously. |

Carried on for a while and stopped in Baud for lunch but everywhere was closed. Carried on to Pontivy and had lunch in medieval part. Crêperies had stopped serving as it was after 2pm but we had nice salads and baguettes. Walked round for a short while and then drove down to Chateau Rohan and were very lucky to find a roadside space in the shade. Visited the Chateau which was mainly full of exhibitions that had nothing to do with the chateau or Rohans. |

Stopped at small place on outskirts of Pontivy for a much needed cold drink. Lots of amusement watching the cars swerve round Dick’s car as he’d parked it in a really awkward spot. We then set off to try to find some of the ‘Art in the Chapels’ exhibitions which had started today. Not a very good beginning as the first one we found was closed. However, we found about five open eventually. Not terribly impressed by the art - which was advertised as contemporary - ie incomprehensible. However, the chapels were good as was the countryside. First chapel was St Nicolas des Eaux and second was Chapel of St Gildas which was a chapel built into a cliff face. Left the last chapel, St Fiacre just after 7pm. Lucky to have seen this as the lady looking after the art (a giant inflatable pillow!) told us that the chapel itself was closing at the end of this year for much needed restoration, in particular preservation of the wall paintings. |

A long drive back including going through Plouay though we didn’t see the old house. Drove to Tregunc to restaurant where we had a lovely meal - Les finally had his sardines grillé. Dick and Les also had flambéed crepes for desert. We were the only customers despite it being good, cheap and a Friday night. Had the local Britt Blonde beer - we kept passing the brewery - very nice but 6%. Back to the house around 9.45 and early bed.
